Improve your Search Engines Rankings

We'll focus on improving your ranking for the natural search results. Getting in the first few pages of the SERP will ensure that most people will find your content.

Traffic volume is the most important parameter when it comes to monetizing your blog (more visitors = more money). A large portion of traffic volume comes from search engines. To monetize efficiently, it's crucial to get your blog contents in the top list of any search engine result pages (SERP). Search Engine Optimization (SEO) helps you to achieve this goal.

There are two types of search results:

  • Natural (a.k.a organic).
  • Paid (e.g. sponsored links in Google SERP).

Search engines basically need one thing to know where to put your blog on their list - your rank on the keyword(s) used to search. For example, if your blog title is Tiki Tiki Guide to Making Money, you might be ranked high if people search for the keywords 'tiki tiki guide'. But you might be far beneath the thousands of other pages on the keywords 'making money online'. The question is, which of these two keyword phrases people will most likely search for. The answer is obvious.

The key to performing SEO lies in knowing what keywords to use and how to optimize their use. Be warned that heavily searched keywords are usually targeted by millions of sites and blogs, whom you have to compete against to move up the SERP. Finding a balance between highly competitive and highly searched keywords is a challenge.

Keyword and SEO research takes time. Even professional bloggers take a few months to move up the SERP right into the first few pages. Above all, content is the heart of a blog. If the content isn't good, no SEO research will do you any good.

Target the Right Keywords
Deciding what to blog is the most critical part. You must do research on keywords prior to deciding your niche. Here are some list of what to check on:
  • Search volumes on those keywords.
  • Number of competitors writing in the same niche.
  • Ads served based on those keywords, so that you don't blog on the ones serving very low cost-per-click(CPC).
  • Variations of these keywords: their synonyms and related words or phrases (see which get searched more with less competitor).
The best tool to help you with this is Wordtracker, available at a price. The site offers free trial and limited functions available for free. There are other keyword tools available with different functionalities.

Choose Suitable Domain Name
SEO keywords begin from the URL. The best domain name is the one with keyword(s) in it. It's great to have a URL like www.yourownname.com, but you'll loose out on getting better SERP rank if it doesn't contain any keywords. Isn't it obvious that www.iwanttomakemoneyonline.com helps SEO better than www.johnjohnnyjonathan.com. Unless of course, you've built some high reputation and your name gets searched a lot.

The other perspective on domain naming is that building a brand name is better in the long run, with something easy and catchy to remember. So there's two side of the coin: you might want to flip on it. But once you've built your blog to a certain level, it's not good to change the domain name. Having a URL that's both catchy and keyword-friendly is ultimately the best. Problogger.net is both catchy and keyword-friendly. Use whois lookup to check if a domain is available.

Use Keywords in Other Sections
The idea is to maximize the use of keywords wherever you can (don't overdo it though). These are the places that you must put keywords in them:
  • Blog Title - Search engines weigh your blog title heavily. Again, it's best to find a name that is both catchy and keyword-rich.
  • Blog Description - This is where you want to write phrases that catches attention, but rich with keywords too. If you're ranked even at No.1, but your description is as dull as a bull, nobody is going to click to your blog.
  • File Names - Use keywords to name files, pictures, photos, graphs, videos, etc that you're using in your blog.
  • Internal Links - Some sites use image maps with hotspot hyperlinks, images, or buttons to navigate within the sites. This works against SEO. It's better to use text links instead of images as text links carry more weight when getting ranked in search engines.
  • Tags or Labels - Each posts should be tagged or labelled with keywords to help strengthen SEO. Some prominent blog directories, like Technorati, uses these tags to identify your blog for others to search.
Blog titles, descriptions, and keywords can be enhanced by using META tags. Here's an article on how to use META tags efficiently.

Use Keywords Often in Content
How do search engine algorithms decide what each post is about? They'll scan for the the most-used keywords in the post, with different weights given to different elements. To make your posts 'acknowledged' as being related to any particular keywords, use and repeat them often in the posts. But don't do this too excessively to the point of being straight-out blunt and annoying. Having the right keyword-density in your posts have two benefits:
  • Draws in more related ads to the post pages. Related ads have better click-through-rates (CTR).
  • Contributes more towards getting higher rank on those keywords.
Build Links from External Sites
One way to get linked to is by exchanging links, commonly done in Blogrolls. Higher-ranking external sites helps your blog more in terms of SEO. Another way to do this is to submit your blog to directories (here's a tool for an automatic submission for multiple directories). Another highly trusted free directory is DMOZ. Posts can also be submitted to social media directories (e.g. Digg, StumbleUpon) that get voted up/down. Two benefits of submitting to directories:
  • You're building links on external sites to your blog/posts.
  • Others may stumble on your blog/posts in these directories and visit your blog from there.
Use Keywords to Anchor Hyperlinks
Don't use the term 'click here' to anchor hyperlinks - use keywords instead. Hyperlinks are valued more by ranking algorithms than the normal content text. Keyword anchors contribute better to SEO compared to the clickhere anchors.

Create Efficient Site Navigation Map
How to influence your readers to stay longer in your blog? Make it easy for them to see what's in your blog. To do this is to build efficient site map, something like an Archives or Categories lists. Even better is to list Related Posts items at the end of each post. Use keywords to anchor all links. This practice helps SEO as it build links to your own blog using keywords, albeit internally, and helps spiders to crawl up your pages easily.

This article has been adapted from an article by Randy DuerMyer at About.com (Alexa rank: 144). The main key points was summarized to shorten the text and expanded to include new and valuable information not available in the original article. The new article (1134 words) is much shorter by 40% compared to the original article (1880 words).

Out-of-This-World Fishing

What lurked in the depths, now is going to haunt your boat.

Be careful what you hook up. Aside from picking some vicious industrial garbage, you can bring to the surface some strange and unmentionable things. Most fishermen will happily brag about an extraordinary big fish (and we'll show plenty of those in this article). But sometimes the catch is so bizarre, that they'd rather try to forget it over a drink or two.

"Larger than life" (but hopefully still real) catches

We all know that the size of our largest catch is only limited to how wide we can stretch our arms, and how gullible your friends are. A picture would usually prove your story, if you don't mind occasional "this is Photoshop... I can tell by the pixels" comments:

(a whale shark, not that big either)

Catfish the size of a small car? Well, almost.

"The World's Largest Catfish" catch happened in Thailand:
(more info - that is a 646-pound Mekong giant catfish)

This is, by the way, officially the largest freshwater fish ever caught...

Here are more record catfish catches:
(images credit: euro-som.de)

This one was caught in France: 106kg, 2.5 meters

Spain: 101kg

Germany: 83kg, 2.2 meters

Kazakhstan: 130kg, 2.6 meters

"Fish in Distress" Needs Saving

According to this source an eight-inch basketball was stuck in a catfish' mouth - the 50-pound fish could not swim or dive, so Wichita resident Bill Driver used a knife to poke the hole in the ball and deflate it:

This fish is also asking for trouble:

The cutest of them all: an Axolotl - a freshwater salamander:

The one with the biggest "cuteness factor" is the albino - white, almost transparent Axolotl. They are priceless creatures (made to be worshiped by Japanese schoolgirls)

Most Vicious of the Bunch

We all know this is "fish-eats-fish" world -

Sharks... awesome creatures:

The "flying sharks" pictorial is something not to be missed - see it here:

Goliath Tiger Fish:

Want to catch the wickedest-looking fish, and snap pictures that are going to be forwarded by scared grandmas all over the internet?

Go to the Congo River (or Lake Tanganyika in Central Africa) and try to catch a Goliath Tiger Fish (aka African tigerfish or giant tigerfish), or Hydrocynus Goliath. Just make sure not to go swimming in these waters, as this kind of fish indeed is known to attack humans (the only freshwater fish in Africa that would do so) -

(images source)

This company will set up a fishing expedition for you.
There is plenty of toothy fish in these waters:

The Ugliest of the Bunch

These live mostly at significant depths, so it's highly unlikely that they will be fished out. But if you do, then - don't make a false move in your boat:

This giant grouper is not really ugly, but rather imposing with its 5-foot size:

Speaking of ugly catches, you might have seen already the infamous "Mr. Blobby":

Fish Tales

This fish was given the opportunity to speak out (as part of 1945 research). Must be some hair-raising tales, judging by how scared it looks.

or you can interview them underwater -

And of course, if you don't go and fish some of the underwater monsters out, they'll come out fishing for YOU -

Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza - Anugerah Industri Muzik 15

Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza excited waiting for the Anugerah Industri Muzik 15 results which be held on 3 Me. Let's just see whether her song , Menanti Pasti shall repeat her big winning strike in Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) previously.

The song, composed by Ajai was indeed a very good song which can caught many hearts from Nusantara region.

Siti Latest Picture (Ganbar Terkini Datuk Siti Nurhaliza ) :

Ditanya, apakah kekuatan lagu ‘Menanti Pasti,’ Siti menjawab,

9 things you didn't know about Google

Google employees sure work in heaven. After you go through this post, you might think want to send your resume to Google for jobs! Sure, the talent is amazing, the pay is great and the cafeteria is legendary. But what about the pranks and Google air? Photographs by Darcy Padilla/Redux for Fortune.com.

1) Scooters are out... bikes are in

After years of getting around their sprawling Mountain View headquarters on two-wheeled Segways (which kept breaking down) and electric scooters (which employees kept falling off), Googlers now use bicycles as their primary mode of transportation at corporate.

2) Movie nights

How do you get more than 6,000 Googlers to see a first-run film? You rent an entire theater for the day. That's exactly what Google's done for movies like "Lord of the Rings," "Transformers" and other blockbusters. As an extra benefit, employees get to bring a guest.

3) Goo-goo Googlers

Your toddler may be too young to work at Google, but that doesn't mean the search engine doesn't care about your precious baby. In fact, a new policy lets Google moms enjoy up to 18 weeks of paid maternity leave; dads get seven weeks. Another perk: free Google baby "onesies."

4) Google's own Facebook

Google's intranet, Moma, provides all the usual corporate info, like benefits, internal newsletters, and a new employee handbook. It's used most often, however, for searching out other Googlers. Why? The directory provides photos of the company's 15,916 employees.

5)Google air

Solar panels, recycled carpets and complimentary public transportation are just some of the "green" practices Google has adopted. On its Mountain View campus, the company has recently installed a special environmentally friendly air-filtering system designed to flush out toxins and particulates. If you're stuck indoors coding all night, you might as well breath clean air.

6) Google's Fools!

Don't believe everything you find on Google - at least not till you check the calendar. It's a company tradition to design elaborate pranks to play on its users and potential employees every April 1st. Past gags include a job listing for engineering positions on the moon and a fictitious product, the brain-boosting energy drink Google Gulp (flavors included "Beta Carroty" and "Glutamate Grape"). But the jokes backfired when, on April 1, 2004, Google launched Gmail and many readers thought it was another April Fool's hoax.

7) Employee Clubs

One of the many ways Google recruits and retains talent is through its club offerings. It funds the Black Googler Network, Google Women Engineers and the GLBT - Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Googlers.

8)Google's grand entrances

Orkut, Google's homegrown social network, is a big hit in Brazil. Coincidentally, Brazil is the source of the elegant hardwood used to build the Googleplex's enormous staircase. The entrance to the company's New York headquarters is no less impressive - it's got a huge all-Lego logo built by a certified Lego designer along with a 6-foot model of the Empire State Building built by Google engineers.

9) Free food, Google style

Free food, Google style

First-class dining facilities? Check. Custom-made milkshakes and onsite farmers' market? Definitely. Yes, Googlers are a well-fed bunch: The company even has a rule -- workers can never be more than 100 feet away from food. Hence the elaborate free snack stations and restaurants scattered throughout the Googleplex.

The latest episodes of Naruto was awsome! Previous episode when he meet for the first time with Sasuke Kun with Orochimaru was a little bit short. I just hope they make the scene longer or maybe give a some fighting moment rather than flashbacks and talking. However, this two naruto episodes also ok to watch. Enjoy!

Penis theft panic hits- Lynchings in Congo

KINSHASA (Reuters) - Police in Congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.

Reports of so-called penis snatching are not uncommon in West Africa, where belief in traditional religions and witchcraft remains widespread, and where ritual killings to obtain blood or body parts still occur.

Rumours of penis theft began circulating last week in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo's sprawling capital of some 8 million inhabitants. They quickly dominated radio call-in shows, with listeners advised to beware of fellow passengers in communal taxis wearing gold rings.

Purported victims, 14 of whom were also detained by police, claimed that sorcerers simply touched them to make their genitals shrink or disappear, in what some residents said was an attempt to extort cash with the promise of a cure.

"You just have to be accused of that, and people come after you. We've had a number of attempted lynchings. ... You see them covered in marks after being beaten," Kinshasa's police chief, Jean-Dieudonne Oleko, told Reuters on Tuesday.

Police arrested the accused sorcerers and their victims in an effort to avoid the sort of bloodshed seen in Ghana a decade ago, when 12 suspected penis snatchers were beaten to death by angry mobs. The 27 men have since been released.

"I'm tempted to say it's one huge joke," Oleko said.

"But when you try to tell the victims that their penises are still there, they tell you that it's become tiny or that they've become impotent. To that I tell them, 'How do you know if you haven't gone home and tried it'," he said.

Some Kinshasa residents accuse a separatist sect from nearby Bas-Congo province of being behind the witchcraft in revenge for a recent government crackdown on its members.

"It's real. Just yesterday here, there was a man who was a victim. We saw. What was left was tiny," said 29-year-old Alain Kalala, who sells phone credits near a Kinshasa police station.

Serangan Jantung dan Minum Air Suam ( Heart Attack Prevention)

Heart Attack prevention. Fakta ini sangat bagus. Bukan semata-mata berkenaan air suam, tetapi berkenaan Serangan Jantung. Masyarakat Cina dan Jepun minum teh panas untuk ketika bersarapan, bukannya air sejuk, mungkin inilah masanya kita perlu mengubah tabiat minum semasa makan.

As we all know, drinking a hot water was a good habit. But this is not about drinking hot water only, but also how it can prevent us from heart attack like the Japanese and Chinese. They drink hot tea in the morning and avoid drinking cool water.

To whom that like to drink up cool water, then you should consider to start drinking hot water after your meal or early in the morning. Drink cool water after meal would concentrate the oil and fat that would block your artery or even can give you a cancer.

Picture I Gambar-gambar Cute Fasha Sandha

FASHA SANDHA. A controversial name in the entertainment industry in MALAYSIA. You either hate or love her. But despite all the nasty remarks thrown at her, FASHA has remained favourite with the lads. With so many rising competing young stars such as SCHA, AINUL AISHAH, FAUZIAH GHAOUS, MIMI RAHZIA, EMYLIA NADIA in the market, FASHA’s saleability has seen slight decline. Whatever it is, all the best to FASHA.

Making Money With The YouTube Partner Program

YouTube service sure being use by most of the internet users. Now, they promoted a new program called YouTube partner program. Now don’t get this confused with the Adsense for Video program. With the YouTube partner program you get a revenue share from the money that YouTube makes. So I applied by going to the YouTube Partner page. Filled out the application which was pretty simple then a few hours later I got a email saying that I had been approved. I had read that its pretty hard to get approved but…. If I can get approved then I am guessing its not THAT hard.

One approved you have to link up a AdSense account so they have you sign in and give your Adsense account login information for the account you are going to get paid through.

The final step is going through the tutorial where they show you all the terms of service and rules of the program. Its pretty self explanatory. Of the 13 steps I think 5 of them are devoted to copyright rules. They are very concerned about you uploading original content (obviously) and especially for this partner program.

So how does the money work? Well here is some of the info from the tutorial.

How your videos can generate revenue

* When you designate a video for revenue sharing, YouTube will place ads “inside” or near the video.
* You will earn a share of the revenue that is generated from ad impressions occurring when these videos are viewed.
* For more details on revenue sharing, please review the Content Hosting Agreement at the end of this tutorial.

As I stated above they are VERY strict on the content you can submit:

Do not upload any TV shows, music videos, music concerts, or commercials without permission unless they consist entirely of content you created yourself. The Copyright Tips page and the Community Guidelines can help you determine whether your video infringes someone else’s copyright.

By clicking “Upload Video,” you are representing that this video does not violate YouTube’s Terms of Use and that you own all copyrights in this video or have express permission from all copyright owners to upload it.

What does this mean?

* Do not use:
o A photograph
o Any music
o Any movie or TV visuals
o Any artwork
o Any play, theatrical work, or concert

…unless you have the permission of the person who created or produced it
* Also:
o Make sure you get permission from people who are featured in your video
o Don’t include “bad stuff” that is prohibited in our Community Guidelines

Black 14 Anwar -20000 Rally in Kampung Baru

About 20,000 people attended a rally in central Kuala Lumpur tonight to mark the expiry of Anwar Ibrahim ban from public office, a decade after he was sacked as deputy prime minister.

The crowd defied a ban on the event which was held in Kampung Baru despite scores of riot police were deployed in the futile attempt to stop the illegal gathering.

"We have not issued any permits for the gathering. I advise all the supporters not to attend it. The gathering is banned," city police chief Muhammad Sabtu Osman told AFP earlier today.

At about 9.15pm, Anwar took the stage to tell his supporters to wait two weeks on whether he would be running for parliamentary seat and return to active politics.

PKR bagged 31 seats in last month's general elections and Anwar had said that one of the parliamentarians would resign so that the party de facto leader could contest in a subsequent by-election.

In his speech, Anwar also attacked his nemesis, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and accused him of abuse of power.

"He has made the judiciary worse. He is worried that I'll be the next PM," he said.

Anwar also lambasted Najib Abdul Razak, saying that the prime minister-in-waiting was "not fit" to assume the post.

The charismatic politician also told the cheering crowd that the Pakatan Rakyat would soon become the ruling coalition.

New politics of ketuanan rakyat

He said that his coalition will be championing people's supremacy (ketuanan rakyat) and will bring about changes to the economy, education and political systems.

After speaking for about an hour, Anwar was told by the police to stop the gathering - about a dozen policemen interrupted Anwar as he was about to end his rally.

He subsequently told the crowd that he would "lead by example" and requested the crowd to disperse.

Organisers claimed a crowd of about 40,000 had attended the rally. The crowd dispersed peacefully by 11.30pm.

Top PKR leaders, including party president and Anwar’s wife Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, daughter Nurul Izzah, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, PKR vice president Azmin Ali and Batu MP Tian Chua were in the crowd. Several DAP and Pas leaders also turned up for the event.

Anwar arrived at the venue at about 8.50pm to shouts of reformasi from the eagerly anticipating crowd.

There was a strong police presence along the main Kampung Baru road. Several Federal Reserve Unit and Light Strike Force trucks were also stationed by the roadside while the unit personnel patrolled the area. People were allowed to move about freely.

Once seen as the heir apparent to long-time leader Mahathir, Anwar was subsequently convicted on sex and corruption charges and spent six years in jail, before storming back to prominence in March elections.

With Anwar at the helm, a reinvigorated opposition seized a third of parliamentary seats and five states in the worst ever showing for the Barisan Nasional coalition that has ruled for half a century.

Now the 60-year-old maverick is once again being touted as a future prime minister, but this time for his Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance which he has described as a "government-in-waiting".

The sodomy charges were later dropped but the corruption count prevented him from standing for public office until tomorrow.

Surprise in store

anwar ibrahim pc 180208 01Anwar had been expected to re-enter Parliament quickly through a by-election in one of the seats held by his party, and to challenge Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in a symbolic no-confidence vote soon after.

But in light of the stunning and unexpected gains, he has said he is in no hurry to act and will instead focus on building up the opposition.

Meanwhile, party's deputy president Syed Husin Ali had earlier rejected the police objections to the rally, but said PKR had made confidential alternative arrangements for the celebration.

"We will go ahead with it for the simple reason that that area is a private area, it is not a public area," he said of the proposed venue.

"We can't understand why there is this sudden change of mind on the part of police... in fact, they were originally involved in discussions to control traffic and ensure security."

Pressuring the police

Syed Husin said he suspected the government, which has been badly rattled by the unprecedented election setback, may be putting pressure on police.

"They might fear that there might be some strong political influence that this gathering might have on the public," he said.

Abdullah has refused to stand down despite the electoral debacle, insisting he has a mandate to rule and promising to introduce long-heralded reforms that voters punished him for never delivering.

But the opposition and many political commentators believe the coalition will continue to flounder and that Anwar could seize power within a few years, or perhaps even a few months.

"I think they are very likely to form the next government and it's a matter of timing, of when this will take place, whether it's at the next elections or before then," said Tricia Yeoh of the Centre for Public Policy Studies.

Gambar perkahwinan Azharina dan DATUK SUKRI lawyer

Azharina bersama suami beliau, DATUK SUKRI, seorang “lawyer” dari Kelantan. All you ladies out there, if given a choice, would you marry an older man?

azharina-datuk-sukri-lawyer

WHY WOMEN PREFER OLDER MEN?

A girl’s mind works in strange ways as if you didn’t know and the things that attract them to men are mostly NOT what you expect . Here’s what they are (not necessarily in order of importance) :–

Honesty
Sense of humor
Eye contact
Smiles
Personality
Confidence
Maturity
Sensitivity
Looks (this one is definitely in the right place in order of importance!)

Ever noticed how a girl goes completely berserk when she finds out you’ve lied . What’s all the fuss about? you think . The big fuss they make tells you something crucial — HONESTY is very very important to girls. Remember this if you are naturally honest and use your honesty to full advantage. Be honest with her even if your natural instinct in a particular situation is not to be . If you are naturally dishonest conceal this at all costs-you’re probably good at that anyway!

A good sense of humor is amazingly attractive to most girls . They want a man who is FUN to be with .If you can make a girl laugh you’re 90% there . If you have a good sense of humor-use it at every appropriate opportunity . If you haven’t- WORK on it - and develop one . This can be done - watch those that have this and use their techniques - try the one that suits your personality best-experiment .

EYE-CONTACT is in my opinion the single most important factor in your success and for this reason I will go into this in more detail later . (similarly with SMILES )

A strong personality draws most girls . They really do go for a man who knows what he wants to do - no matter what anybody else thinks about him .

Girls are also drawn to confident men who are assertive , positive and don’t dither . If you are less than confident - don’t show it . LOOK CONFIDENT . How do you do this? TRY-study body language , either get a book on this or just observe & imitate any confident men you see around you . Stand up straight ,never fidget , head up high , slow ,steady movements and above all EYE to EYE contact at all times. You know the things I mean -observe & learn & apply .

Maturity is a big turn on with most girls . This is one reason that quite a lot find older men attractive . So it usually pays to act pretty sensibly when you’re with girls ( not to the extent that you lose your sense of humor and fun of course ). Drinking beer until it comes out of your ears, falling over senseless and going on the rampage might be a good laugh when you’re with the lads but it won’t impress her. She might laugh but inside she’ll be eaten up with embarrassment.

A lot of men think that girls are turned on by very macho men - but most girls think completely the OPPOSITE . Girls like their men to be sensitive . Don’t take this too far , girls want their men to act like men but try and mix being a man with being caring and sensitive . A heady cocktail that girls find irresistible ! If you find something ‘nice’ or ‘pretty’ or something upsets you - tell her. You’ll be surprised how much she warms to you . Especially if the something nice or pretty is about her!!

Whilst girls obviously go for good looks and a decent body it comes surprisingly LOW on THEIR list of priorities . By itself it doesn’t turn them on like it does men . Ask a girl if she is turned on by these things , she will probably say yes but deep down a girl knows she can’t find any man a turn-on unless he CARES for her too.

Sufiah Yusof a.k.a. Shilpa Lee with News of The World

What was this so called genius Sufiah Yusof thinking! Shocking confession by Sufiah Yusof a.k.a. Shilpa Lee with News of The World. In an exclusive interview with News Of The World, the UK based tabloid newspaper, Shilpa Lee has revealed the juicy details of her adventure and how she drives men wild. Admittedly, there are many people of high intelligence who are involved in the industry and it’s just too stigmatised by the general public. “My clients love the fact that I can stimulate their minds AND their bodies,” she boasts. “And I don’t believe my education has been wasted—in fact I usually take problem sheets with me to solve before appointments.

sufiah-yusof-shilpa-lee-escort-number-math-genius

“I have a nice life and I am in control,” she says. “I hate this stereotype society has of escorts being exploited. It is so far from the truth. “My clients treat me like a princess. One guy I see in London took me shopping on Bond Street. He bought me a beautiful black Gucci dress for £700 and then took me to Selfridges and told me to pick any handbag I liked.” She chose a £600 Gucci clutch. “I’m a Primark (cheap brand in UK) and Topshop girl normally! I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Later that night we went for dinner. I wore my Gucci dress and sexy lingerie and took great pleasure in peeling it off for him later on back at his hotel.”

math-genius-shilpa-lee-sufiah-yusof

Sufiah was working as an administrative assistant earning £ 16,000 a year in Manchester when an escort agency boss approached her in a bar four months ago. She’d run up debts of £3,500 in rent arrears and credit cards.

sufiah-yusof-shilpa-lee-escort-number

And she was still haunted by her hellish childhood—subjected to her father Farooq’s Accelerated Learning Technique where she studied maths day in day out in rooms kept freezing cold to improve her concentration.

So the big rewards the agency boss promised seemed more than tempting. “I have studied so intensely for so many years I wanted to have fun,” she says.

She can’t see the sordid side of prostitution—and instead likens herself to Belle De Jour—the saucy hooker played by Billie Piper in the TV drama.

“I’d read Belle De Jour’s Diary of a London Call Girl and was fascinated,” she said. “When this immaculate lady in a designer suit asked if I had ever considered escorting, I found it appealing.

“I went home, researched agencies on the internet and found one I thought looked professional. I sent them photographs and they put me on their site.” A couple of days later Sufiah was offered her first client. She recalls: “I felt quite nervous but excited too. I slipped on some black lace underwear and stockings and suspenders and a dress, and just though, ‘Wow, this is thrilling.’

“He was waiting for me at the bar of the Hilton. I expected him to be older but when I saw him he was lovely.

“He was only in his late 20s, tall and handsome. I thought, ‘I can’t believe I’m getting paid to have sex with this man.’

math03

“I’d have been thrilled if he chatted me up in a bar. We had a drink then went upstairs to his room and had fantastic sex. I left that night feeling totally elated having had an amazing time with £250 in my purse.” Since then, she has built up a base of regular rich clients and sees between five and ten men each week. Her sugar daddies have treated her to fabulous clothes, designer bags, trips on yachts and even helicopter rides.

Sufiah, whose interview can be seen on video at notw.co.uk, brags that she can earn more than £1,000 in a night by having diner with a client and staying over. “It’s like they want to rescue me. One man asked me how much I earned a year. I said £60,000. He told me, ‘I’ll pay that amount straight into your bank and buy you a flat and you can be my mistress.’ All the fun that she can have but what about the later life?

Her mother Halimahton is now divorcing jailed Farooq and is desperate for her daughter to get in touch with her. “I was shaking when I found out what had become of her,” she says.

SHOCKING CONFESSION BY SUFIAH YUSOF A.K.A. SHILPA LEE TO NEWS OF THE WORLD

Improve your Search Engine Position with Sitemaps

The term "sitemap" can refer to two different things. Many large, complex Web sites provide a visual sitemap that visitors can use for quick navigation, if they already know roughly where they want to go. If your site is large or complex, you should provide one of these sitemaps for your visitors.

But this article is about the other kind of sitemap: The kind that is made for the search engines, like Google, to use in indexing your site. There are several forms that these sitemaps can take, but we'll get to that a little later.

First of all, let's consider why you even need a sitemap. Google and the other search engines will index your site even if you don't have a sitemap. However, there are four main advantages to having a sitemap:

1. If your site uses non-HTML links, such as Macromedia Flash menus or JavaScript menus, the search engines will not be able to follow these links, and so they will not find all of your pages. A code-driven site must use a sitemap.

2. A sitemap tells the search engines which pages on your site are more important, and which are less important. This prevents the less important pages from competing with your own pages in the listings.

3. A sitemap tells the search engines which pages on your site are updated more frequently than others. This enables the search engines to ignore your static pages, increasing the likelihood that they will have the most current data on your most dynamic pages.

4. A sitemap enables you to tell the search engines when you have added or updated your site's content. To some extent, this puts you in control of making the search engines aware of your latest content. Of course, it doesn't force the search engines to do your bidding, but it tends to make it easier for users to find your new pages more quickly.

So, what is a sitemap?

As mentioned above, there are many possible forms of sitemaps, but we'll concentrate on the most useful kind, the XML sitemap format created and promulgated by sitemaps.org. This protocol, currently known as "Sitemap 0.90," is maintained and endorsed jointly by Google, MSN, Yahoo, and Ask, so you know it is pretty much a universal standard.

An XML sitemap consists of a list of pages on your Web site, and standard information about each page.

There are three things to notice about each entry:

1. LastMod. Tell the search engines the last date (and time) you changed this page. That will tell them which ones they ought to index right away, and which ones they can ignore.

2. ChangeFreq. In case you're not updating your sitemap all the time, this will give the search engines a clue as to how often they ought to check each page.

3. Priority. This tells the search engines the relative importance of this page, compared to all the other pages in your site.

In assigning a value for "Priority," on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0, determine which pages are most important and which are least important within your site. We're not telling the search engines that this "Services" page is in the 80th percentile of all pages on the Web, but it is far more important than the "Index" page within this site. That's where we want our visitors to end up.

It's easy to identify pages within your site which are lowest priority. Some examples:

- Privacy Policy - "Contact us" - "About us"

Please don't misunderstand this. It's not that your "Privacy Policy" page is unimportant and so you might as well not have one. It's that your "Privacy Policy" is important enough to take for granted: Your visitors will find it when they need it. But for search engine purposes, you'd rather direct them to the pages where you actually do your business.

So, how do you create a sitemap?

There are a number of software tools that will create a sitemap by reading your site's content. You will have to adjust the results, especially the "Priority" settings, but most of these do a pretty good job. Search the Web for "sitemap generator," or for any of the following specific free tools:

- SitemapDoc - XML-Sitemaps - AuditMyPC Google Sitemap Generator

And once you have your sitemap, what do you do with it?

There are three things to do, in sequence:

1. Place the sitemap file into the root directory of your Web server, alongside your main "index" file. And each time you update it, place the new copy there.

2. Notify the major search engines of your new sitemap file each time you update it. For Google, this means to submit it from within "Webmaster Tools." For other major search engines, search on that search engine for "submit sitemap," and you'll probably find where to enter the URL of your sitemap file.

3. Place a reference to the sitemap file in your robots.txt file, as "Sitemap: http://www.malaysiangate.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml". This will make sure that any search engine will find it, even those that you did not submit it to directly. You only need to do this once, unless you change the name or location of your sitemap file.

Once you have your sitemap created and submitted, don't forget to maintain it. Each time you add a page to your Web site, add it to your sitemap. Each time you update a page on your Web site, update its "lastmod" setting in your sitemap. Try adjusting the "priority" of your pages from time to time to see if it improves the performance of that particular page. And each time you modify your sitemap, resubmit it to the major search engines.

Attention - Withdrawal money from ATM Bank

I bet everyone went to the ATM Bank to withdraw money. However, there was something you have to be extra careful on this.I got this email from my office colleagues.

Dear All,

I would like to share a real life story with all my friends and especially all my colleagues and all Maybank account holders.

This incident happened on today evening (1 April 2008). I went to the PJ State (Also known as PJ New Town) Maybank to withdraw RM500. Unfortunately for me,
only 9 RM50 notes came out instead of 10.

What happened was, one of the RM50 notes was folded exactly in half and placed at a corner of the stack (Please refer to the attached pictures showing how two RM50 notes can be counted as three).

I was so upset because I have no proof that the ATM did not give me the correct amount. After much hesitation, I finally decided to call Maybank to complain about the incident knowing that I may not get back my money. But at least I can caution them of such incident. When I told of my situation

to the Maybank Customer Service Representative, to my surprise, I was informed that I'm not the first victim. It seems that
similar cases have occurred before. The lady explained that it is the malfunction of the ATM and the money may accidentally get folded in half. However when questioned,
she was unable to explain to me why the money can be folded exactly in half and placed nicely in the corner of the stack.

I believe this is the new technique of cheating money, done by the people who are responsible of placing the money into the ATMs. In the stack of money which is to be
placed into the ATM, one RM50 note is folded nicely
in half, for every one note taken out of the stack of money. The folded RM50 notes are then placed at the edge of the stack and positioned in the ATM where the money would be counted. With that done, every one folded note would be counted by the machine as two notes.

I may be wrong about how and why it happened, but

I would like to warn everyone about this incident. Please be careful when withdrawing money from the ATM (it may happen to other banks as well) and do count your money to be sure. If such an incident really happened to you (*touch wood*), please do call up the bank to complain about this. If everyone keeps quiet about this, the bank may be unaware of such incidents and the people responsible may just continue doing what they do without getting caught! Even if it is actually because of the ATM malfunctioning, the bank should know about this and there is also a chance of you getting your money back.

Best Regards,
Natalie Tan

I refer to the letter All Anwar wants is the PM-ship by one Chin Chai Ho. ‘Chin Chai Ho? Is that a bona fide by-line, I wonder - or one of Azalina's legendary cybertroopers out on an anti-Anwar spin? Sorry, Chin Chai Ho. You'll have to do better than that. Your opinion piece looks like an opinion; it even reads like an opinion piece; but when I hold it against my nose, I smell styrofoam.

Take this paragraph for example:

‘Anwar Ibrahim and his associates in the DAP and PAS want the people to believe that the country is coming apart due to massive corruption and mismanagement by the Barisan Nasional government. Yes, there have been some corrupt practices by certain quarters in the government; no one condones them. One Zakaria of Klang does not make all the 500-odd state assembly persons in the country corrupted too. There are other cases of corruption but definitely the country is not riddled by these corrupted officials nor the country is coming apart. Our officials and civil servants are generally a dedicated and honest lot.’

Hello, Mr Ho! I've lived here since I was born a very long time ago and I don't need Anwar, Kit Siang or Nik Aziz to tell me BN has mismanaged my country for as long as I can remember. The only reason why I chose not to migrate is that I am a warrior at heart - and I decided 20 years ago I would grow a deep root here and live to see the demise of fear-and-greed driven politics and the passing of the Age of Corruption. We're almost there now... if not for the unfortunate fact that the BN still retains control of the federal government apparatus.

Which means they can choose to maintain repressive laws and retain well-trained servants like Gani Patail, Musa Hassan and all the hacks running the mass media. Indeed, many of us don't need any convincing that BN actually lost control of Malaysia on March 8. If it hadn't been for the massive cheating and unfair advantages at BN's disposal, right now they would be crushed beyond recognition, blown to smithereens like some Mongolian Mata Hari.

In their hearts, BN know they have no business forming the federal government anymore. But it's scary to find yourself suddenly vulnerable and liable to prosecution for gross abuse of power and misappropriation of public funds. Doesn't matter if you're already retired. As Param Cumaraswamy rightly says, ‘There is no expiry date on crime’. That's why you would cling by your fingernails to the last vestiges of power and, with your last ounce of strength, try to push your political foes down the stairs or trip them as they walk by.

The day Anwar Ibrahim (or Wan Azizah) becomes PM, many in the BN will soil their pants and quite a few will do a Zakaria Mat Deros. He returns from the political wilderness like the ghost of Altantuya Shaariibuu or Jalil Ibrahim (the conscientious auditor who was murdered in Hong Kong while investigating the BMF scandal). To be publicly humiliated and privately beaten up, poisoned, and punished for being ambitious - and since when has ambition been a crime? It's no secret that Anwar was already in line to become PM, having been given the post of Finance Minister as well as Deputy Prime Minister.

But Mahathir is one of those egos who cannot tolerate being overtaken on the road to immortal glory - he is the original source of road rage! Not that I believe the Pakatan Rakyat government will be vindictive. But just for them to do their job honestly and efficiently would be punishment enough for all the arrogant and greedy cacing that have had their heyday under the dacing.

Mr Ho Ho Ho says: ‘For goodness sake give us a break. Surely the people can see his true intention. All he wants is the prime minister-ship and the power that goes with it.’

My friend, whoever you are, we all know that. Everybody knows that. Anwar Ibrahim would like to be the PM because he has been training his whole life for the job, since he was a kid, probably. I've watched him address the crowds at ceramah,. I've studied his every move and raised my cap in admiration of his stamina and strength-of-will. I know he wants to be PM and I would very much like to see him get the job.

In fact many of us have been waiting since 1998 to see justice done and destiny fulfilled. And you know what quality Anwar Ibrahim has that makes me name him our best candidate for PM? Natural intelligence. That''s one quality that has been conspicuously absent for a very long while. And don't point at Mahathir and tell me he was even more intelligent. Mahathir was indeed cunning - but that does not equate with true intelligence or he would have apologised and relocated to Mauritius years ago.

So what the dickens are you talking about? Chin Chai Cakap ah?

Don’t blame saboteurs

Saifuddin hoped the roadshow would attract even more people to the cause.

“The crowds will be bigger (at these roadshows) to support this appeal (for Abdullah to consider resigning),” he said.

According to him, Umno branch leaders from the Ampang and Gombak divisions in Selangor and Titiwangsa in the Federal Territory approached him after yesterday’s forum to discuss how more of such talks can be organised.

He also said he received many short-messaging-system texts and calls on his mobile phone congratulating him for the good turnout and the outcome of the forum.

The details of the roadshows, such as when and where it will begin, have yet to be discussed, said Saifuddin.

NONECommenting on Abdullah’s statement yesterday that Barisan Nasional’s poor showing at the March 8 general election was due to saboteurs within Umno, Saifuddin said this demonstrated his inability to admit his own faults.

“He has blamed (former Umno vice-president) Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Mahathir and the opposition and everybody else, but he has not placed any of the blame on himself.

“Abdullah must face the reality that he is the problem, especially his poor leadership. The problem is also shared by his son-in-law (Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin),” he said.

Internal manipulation

Asked why Umno grassroots members do not wait for the party’s annual general meeting (AGM) set to take place in December to vote Abdullah out of power, Saifuddin said they do not trust that the party’s nominations and elections process.

These, he said, could be manipulated to keep Abdullah’s contenders from mounting an effective challenge.

He cited the example of the Kubang Pasu division elections in 2006 which saw Mahathir, who was contesting to represent the division at the year’s AGM, failing to secure one of seven positions.

Several quarters have expressed the suspicion that corruption prevented Mahathir from being securing enough votes.

“Look at what happened in Kubang Pasu. You mean to tell me that a former Umno president, an ex-prime minister, who has done so much for the people of Kubang Pasu and led BN to five victories in Kedah, was not popular enough to be a delegate to the AGM?

“There is no guarantee that the same thing will not happen again in December,” said Saifuddin.

“We are appealing - we are not forcing - Abdullah to resign for the sake of the future of Umno. It is not that we do not love Abdullah. It’s just that we love Umno more,” he added.

Malaysiakini WAY TO GET PM RESIGNATION

Veteran and grassroots Umno leaders are seeking to hold state-by-state roadshows and gatherings to press party president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down, said an Umno branch leader today.

saifuddin hermanUmno Pusat Bandar Taman Cempaka branch chairperson Syed Saifuddin Syed Herman (right) said this idea was mooted and agreed upon after discussions with former Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Junid and several other Umno leaders from Selangor and the Federal Territory.

“I expressed this (idea to) Sanusi and (former Selangor exco member) Fuad Hassan (and) that we need to do something at a bigger level to sustain the momentum (achieved),” he told Malaysiakini when met in Kuala Lumpur.

“We fully agreed that this thing be done at the state-by-state level,” he added.

mahathir speech at de palma 060408Saifuddin’s branch organised the forum held yesterday where former Umno president and ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad spoke on the need for Abdullah to step down in order to save Umno.

According to Saifuddin, about 1,100 people bought tickets to the event held at a hotel in Jalan Ampang to hear Mahathir speak as well as to air their own views on the leadership crisis facing the party.

Among the guests was Ummi Hafilda Ali - the woman at the centre former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim's corruption trial eight years ago. She called for a 100,000 gathering in Putrajaya to demand Abdullah's resignation.

Saifuddin said those who attended yesterday's forum blamed the current leadership for BN’s dismal performance at the March 8 general election due to its indifference to views at the grassroots level.

Many more Umno leaders - especially at the division level and above - agree with the need for the leadership to change to save it from dying off, said Saifuddin.

However, concerns that being seen at such events will jeopordise their positions and interests prevent them from attending or showing their support openly for Abdullah to step down, he said further MORE

Sufiah Yusof - Gambar Melayu Cerdik

Maths prodigy Sufiah Yusof, who is now working as a prostitute, claims she is living the life she wants without any regrets.
She does not think being an escort is sleazy and terrible and says her clients treat her like a princess in an interview with British tabloid News of the World.

“People think escorting is sleazy and terrible but I don’t see it like that,” she said in a no-holds-barred interview that was published with pictures of her in skimpy attire and sexy poses.
Sufiah: ‘People think escorting is sleazy and terrible but I don’t see it like that’
Sufiah claimed that she wanted to be in control of her life.
“I hate this stereotype society has of escorts as being exploited. It is so far from the truth. My clients treat me like a princess. One guy took me shopping on Bond Street. He bought me a beautiful black Gucci dress for £300 (RM1,920) and then took me to Selfridges, where I could pick a handbag I liked.”
Sufiah chose a £600 (RM3,840) Gucci clutch and later that night, she repaid him for his generosity .
The 23-year-old Sufiah, who passed her Maths A-level when she was only 12, was enrolled at St Hilda’s College in Oxford a year later.
She was working as an administrative assistant earning £16,000 (RM102,400) a year in Manchester when, about four months ago in a bar, she was asked by an “immaculate lady in a designer suit” to become an escort.
She found the offer appealing because she was running up debts of about £3,500 (RM22,400) in rent and credit card expenses.
“I have studied so intensely for so many years, I wanted to have some fun,” said Sufiah, whose Pakistani father Farooq Yusof forced her to study day and night.
The father is now in jail for sexually assaulting two pupils.
She sent her photographs to an escort website and the agency listed her. A few days later, she was offered a client.
She admitted being quite nervous, but excited as well.
In control: A reader looking at the News of the World’s interview with Sufiah in which she describes her life now as nice.
Sufiah said the first client was a “lovely man” in his late 20s, tall and handsome.
“I left that night feeling totally elated having an amazing time with £250 (RM1,600) in my purse,” said Sufiah.
She has built a base of regular clients and saw between five and 10 men each week.
“I don’t believe my education had been wasted – in fact, I usually take problem sheets with me to solve before appointments,” she said.
Sufiah claimed she could earn more than £1,000 (RM6,400) a night by having dinner and staying over with a client.
“Now, I wonder if I could go back to a normal relationship, where you watch EastEnders and have boring sex. I’ve gotten used to being treated like a princess,” she said.
If Sufiah talked glowingly about her “career,” she was not so effusive when talking about her childhood and her father.
She recalled studying maths all the time. She did not have any friends or allowed to join any activities.
“As I grew older, I began to clash with my father. He was violent at times. He pushed me so far academically, I became more confident for any girl my age. I grew up too quickly.
“Oxford was an amazing place but I was too young. By the time I was 15, I wanted to be in control of my life. I fought back,” she said.
That was the year she ran away from university.
Sufiah told the News of the World she ran away with £200 (RM1,280). She found a hostel in London for £14 (RM89.60) a night. After a week, she moved to a hostel in Bournemouth.
When she was found in an Internet cafe, Sufiah refused to go home. She was placed in foster care.
When she was 18, Sufiah returned to Oxford to resume her studies. She fell in love and married fellow student Jonathan Marshall a year later.
“At that time, I thought we would be together forever, but we married too young and grew apart,” she said.
After the divorce, she moved back to London and taught maths in the evening. Six months ago, she shifted to Manchester and became an escort.
“I still enjoy learning and I find it puts me in the right frame of mind for an intelligent conversation with my clients,” she said.
Sufiah is adamant about continuing with her “career” because “I have a nice life.”
She also does not want much to do with her parents. Describing the relationship as estranged, she said she was in contact with them occasionally but “couldn’t speculate what they will think of my new life.”
“I have never felt so confident about my body and I’ve had some of the best sex of my life,” she said

Khasiat kayu Kokka tipu?

Source : rohaizadyusoff

Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 5:47 PM Posted by jatt
Sepuluh tahun, RM8.1 juta. Malaysiakini : Pak Lah Hit Tun Mahathir, Anwar and Ku Li

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has hit out at Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Razaleigh Hamzah and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for their criticism of his leadership.

"There is no stopping (Dr Mahathir's) slew of accusations. He claims there is no freedom of media. Does he not remember that during his time, he asked the media to 'block out' stories and photos of (former Prime Minister) Tun Hussein Onn and not give coverage to certain people.

"As for Operasi Lalang, don't forget who's responsible," he said, in reference to the 1987 crackdown in which over 100 people were arrested under the Internal Security Act for purportedly causing racial tension and posing a threat to national security.

On the judiciary, Abdullah said the problems did not start during his era.

Abdullah, who is the Umno president was speaking to reporters after giving a briefing to Umno grassroots leaders at PWTC over the party's performance in the general election.

On Razaleigh's recent open criticism of his leadership, Abdullah said the Gua Musang MP should take a good look at himself.

"He was the reason Barisan lost Kelantan to PAS in the first place," he said, adding that the Kelantan leader had done nothing to win the state back.

On former deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was sacked from the party in 1998 and was trying to make a political comeback, Abdullah said Anwar could wait all he liked.

"He may be the Prime Minister-in-waiting but I'm the leader of today," he stressed.

He also pointed out that when Anwar was the country's number two he (Anwar) too tried to control the media in terms of what came out on TV and in print.

Anti-Islam film Fitna - from stupid Dutch

The Hague - Last night's debate in the Dutch parliament on the anti-Islam film Fitna turned into a major confrontation between populist right-wing MP Geert Wilders and the government.

During the debate, confidential records were released of a conversation in early November between Mr Wilders, Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin and Interior Minister Guusje Ter Horst. The document states that Mr Wilders had said he planned to remove pages from the Qur'an and throw them into a fireplace.

This explains why the government treated the impending film as the potential source of a major crisis. Minister Hirsch Ballin suggested that the film had been adapted after their meeting, as the scene was chaned in the final version. However, Mr Wilders denied having mentioned such plans, adding "This is deception. Lies."

Mr Wilders came under fierce criticism during the debate and there was broad support for the way in which the government had handled the affair. Mr Wilders said Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende should apologise for the alarmist attitude he had taken. Mr Balkenende responded by saying Mr Wilders should offer his apologies to moderate Muslims.

Graveside picnics: The Ching Ming Festival

Ching Ming Festival

............................................................................................................................

Graveside picnics: The Ching Ming Festival - "The Clear and Bright Festival" - is related to the solar calendar. This seasonal festival marks the beginning of spring and is held on the 106th day after winter solstice and celebrated here in April.

On this day observants customarily visit ancestral graves where traditional rites and offerings are made to honour one's ancestors. This unusual ancestral observance is related to the traditional Chinese need to receive blessing from the previous generations at the onset of a new undertaking. The event, however, has the atmosphere of a picnic because the offered food is eaten at the various gravesites. It is not a solemn occasion, but rather, a time for happy communion with one's forefathers.

Ching Ming is one of the 24 segments of Chinese Calendar. 'Ching' means clear and 'Ming' means bright. Spring starts and nature looks bright and clear.

My mother told me that Ching Ming is also called Cold Food Day but we never eat cold food on that day. I haven't paid much attention to it until when I was writing about Ching Ming I read about it. (Please see my findings about Cold Food Day here) There was no fire during the Cold Food period. When Cold Food Day finished, palace distributed fire to senior government officials. Citizens were then allowed to start fire too. This is called 'New Fire'.

A book '東京夢華錄' from Sung Dynasty tells us that Ching Ming happened 3 days after Cold Food Day. People went grave sweeping for the next 3 days though most people went on the first day - Ching Ming. But then Cold Food Day was shortened from one month to 3 days, one day and then banned completely. In the end Cold Food Day overlaps with Ching Ming.

Why do people go grave sweeping on Cold Food Day? It is because in Tang Dynasty, the emperor ordered everybody went grave sweeping on Cold Food Day. Northern people are more serious about worshipping their ancestors while the southern people just take this chance to go to the countryside.

On Ching Ming, people went to the countryside to fly kites. It is because after Ching Ming, the wind direction is not so steady and predictable and so it's not suitable to fly kites after Ching Ming. Therefore, in the old days, children cut the thread of the kites when they had their last fly and let the kites go.

In Ming Dynasty, men and soldiers will have a archery competition. Objects were hung on the branch of willows and the participants had to shoot the object. Ladies, on the other hand, will play swings. This is popular both in palace and general public. There are even records of people in palace calling Ching Ming 'Swing Festival'.

To "sweep the graves" means to clear the graves of all the leaves and weeds and repaint the inscriptions on it. The Chinese believe that too many leaves surrounding the graves disturb the spirit of the ancestors. Then food such as fruit, rice, wine, chicken, pork, cakes etc., the favorite food of the ancestors, will be put around the grave for the spirit of the ancestors. The Chinese believe that the dead ancestors are not eating well in their afterlife. Giving them their favorite food not only shows respect for them but also brings the descendants good life and health. The Chinese believe that the spirit has power to fulfil wishes. The food is not wasted as after prayers they will be brought back and shared among the descendants. The Chinese believe that eating them brings good health. Also, paper money is burned, candles are lit and the whole family kneels to pay respect. The Chinese also believes that paper money can be consumed in heaven or hell.
This ancient Chinese painting shows that the Ching Ming Festival in the old days was quite a busy occasion for the Chinese people.

In ancient China, Qingming was by no means the only time when sacrifices were made to ancestors. In fact, such ceremonies were held very frequently, about every two weeks, in addition to other important holidays and festivals. The ceremonies were so elaborate and expensive that later in 732A.D., Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty declared that respects would be formally paid at the tombs of ancestors only on the day of Qingming in order to reduce the expenses. This is a custom that continues to this date.

Qingming is not just a day of remembrance, it is also a day to celebrate the coming of spring, often by going out for a picnic. With the coming of spring, nature wakes up, dressing the world with green grass. Everything is new, clean and fresh.

Top April Fool's Day Stories

Spaghetti trees

This classic television April Fool dates from 1957, when the BBC's Panorama programmespaghetti harvest covered the beginning of the spaghetti harvest in Ticino, the Italian-speaking southern canton of Switzerland. Watch it again on the BBC's On This Day mini-site (simply select the right date) and consider that the bulk of the British population had never even seen real spaghetti in 1957.

Pop goes The Archers

In 2004, BBC Radio 4's Today programme announced that the traditional theme tune to The Archers was to be scrapped in favour of a new electronic version by Brian Eno. While the carefully crafted report is still a pleasure to listen to (on the Today website, click "Latest reports", then "Arts and Culture" and scroll down to "Archers Theme"), it fails to match radio's finest ever hoax. In 1976, Patrick Moore told Radio 2 listeners that, at precisely 9.47am that day, an unusual alignment of the planets would lessen the Earth's gravitational pull, so that anyone who jumped in the air would feel a strange floating sensation. Hundreds phoned in to say they had experienced the phenomenon.

Fake BMWs

Each year, BMW runs advertisements in newspapers and magazines trumpeting an unlikely new technical development - from internally adjustable tyre pressures to fly-repellent windscreens. These stopped fooling anyone a long time ago, but are now something of an institution. The archive of ads (click "Company Facts", then "Marketing") does not include the best: the revelation that fake BMWs were in circulation and could be recognised by the colours on the chequered badge being reversed, white where it should be blue and vice versa. Naturally, BMW owners who compared their car with the "correct" version discovered that they had a fake.

Enormous particles

The American monthly science magazine Discover has something of a reputation for running stories of dubious veracity in its April edition. An early "discovery" was the hot-headed naked ice borer, a creature unknown to science, found living in Antarctica by one Dr Aprile Pazzo, which tunnels through the ice by melting it with its superheated bones. More recently, Discover reported on the bigon, a fundamental particle the size of a bowling ball, which popped up during experiments by physicist Albert Manque at the Centre de l'Étude des Choses Assez Minuscules in Paris (on the Discover website, search for "bigon").

Google on the moon

Internet April Fools jokes are widespread, and Google got in on the act on April 1 2006 with this job ad for a position at its lunar centre. What's nice about this spoof is that it is done so amusingly and at such length: a splendid concept is the high-density, high-delivery hosting, or HiDeHiDeHo. Another of Google's brightest ideas is its sewer-ducted broadband, at google.com/tisp.

Top 100 April Fools

Fans of quality newspaper April Fools go all dewy-eyed at the mention of the Island of San Serriffe, created by The Guardian in 1977, ranked number five in the all-time top 100 at the Museum of Hoaxes. Few hoaxes have ever been so wholeheartedly perpetrated: the fictional island had an entire travel supplement dedicated to it. Joining it in the Top 10 are the announcement by Richard Nixon (well, an actor playing him) in 1992 that he would be running for president once more, under the slogan "I didn't do anything wrong, and I won't do it again"; and the news from 1996 that the Liberty Bell had been sponsored by Taco Bell and would henceforth be known as the Taco Liberty Bell - to which a quick-witted White House press officer responded that a similar deal had been struck regarding the Lincoln Memorial, now renamed the Ford Lincoln Continental Memorial.

Last year's April Fools

Visit Wikipedia and search for "April 1 2007" and you will find an exhaustive list of last year's April Fools in the media. Those from British newspapers include: the craze for grow-your-own Viagra (Independent); council inspectors demand a £5 on-the-spot carbon tax for barbecues (Mail on Sunday); Tony Blair to appear on stage in The Crucible (Observer); and cash-strapped London asks Paris if it will consider sharing the Olympics (Sunday Telegraph). On the web, meanwhile, the BBC announced its "sniff-screen technology".

USB fondue set

The Fundue is a USB-powered fondue set, so you can dip snack items of your choice into melted cheese (or, indeed, chocolate) while you work at your computer. It's just one of many unlikely new gadgets at Think Geek.

Strange but true

The peculiar thing about trying to find the April Fool story in your newspaper is that you start doubting everything - the vast majority of stories begin to seem extremely unlikely. Tone up your judgment muscles by visiting this website, which specialises in entertaining science news. It pops up unlikely facts at random (bees have five eyes; 70 per cent of the raisins we eat are consumed at breakfast; the most popular colour for toothbrushes is blue) and has an entire section dedicated to the strange but true (click "Strange"), where you can read a list of unlikely things invented in Britain, including the guillotine, the turkey, Swiss roll, Champagne and the Celts.

The first April Fools

The origins of April Fool's Day are obscure. There may be connections with a Roman event called a hilaria celebrating Cybele, the mother of the gods, which took place on March 25. It involved impersonating other people for comic effect. Some authorities trace its earliest forms to late medieval France and particularly to the period in which the "Annunciation style" new year on March 25 was switched to the "Circumcision style" date of January 1. (This did not happen in Britain until 1752.) Pleasingly, though, a long-lived English tradition says that foolishness began with the villagers of Gotham, Nottinghamshire, in the reign of King John. Read the story in this online version of the Chamber's Book of Days, a Victorian equivalent of the BBC's On This Day website (click "Calendar of Days", choose April 1 and scroll down to "The Wise Fools of Gotham").
